Members RangerDoc Posted September 8, 2011 Members Posted September 8, 2011 I am stationed at Fort Leonard Wood & have recently aquired a 14 ft jon w/ a 60hp outboard on the back. I am wondering where in the Waynesville area there is enough water to run this boat? I have been looking at Gasconade boat ramp access in the DeLorme atlas/gazateer & see there are ramps located 1. off 17 on riverside rd (or resort rd off of 133) just off Hwy Y vicinity yellow bluff off 28 vicinity Weeks Hol and where the big Piney joins the Gasconade. Is anyone familiar with these areas and know if theres enough water/ depth to run my boat? Run up or down river? If you don't want to post any secret holes u could also email me at chantemichaud@yahoo.com (shared email w/wife) Any help greatly appreciated RangerDoc RLTW!!!
Al Agnew Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 The river is only runnable by jetboat, and even then can get too low for all but the most experienced to run it above the mouth of the Big Piney. There is no public boat ramp at the mouth of the Big Piney. If your outboard is a jet, your best bet is the MDC access at Jerome in low water. In higher water levels there is a good ramp at Riddle Bridge (Hwy. Y) that you can use and run upstream.
fishinwrench Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 A 14 footer with a 60 had BETTER BE a jet..... Otherwise, YIKES ! LOL
catman70 Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Hey, Al, which potion(s) of that trophy smallmouth area to you think are the most productive?
Al Agnew Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 Actually, I haven't fished it enough in recent years to give you a good answer on that. When I have fished it I've caught fish all through it. Like any good sized smallmouth stream in warm weather, the long slow pools will be pretty much unproductive and the fish will mostly be in moving water. The opposite is usually true in the winter.
