Hey guys, staying at indianpoint resort the week of 22-25. We will be renting a 21ft boat and was wandering what some of the best spots are for small mouth. What lures have you been using drop shot, jigs, tubes. How is fishing at Dam or the James River arm. Thanks

Probably need to take a look at current posts.wink.gif There are current post on the dam area and also the James.happy.gif

Ok, looks like they are hitting on top water. What in your guys opinion would be the right time in the fall to catch the big females moving up in the creeks to get ready for winter. I'm still thinking it might be a little two earlier for the big ones to start moving into the creeks to feed on the shad. We went to KY lake last year at the same time but it was still to warm for the big ones. Thanks

I would absolutely fish the dam rip rap if you are looking for smallmouth. I have been consistenly cathing them at the north end of the dam for the last six weeks. Nothing huge, but nice fish. Plus, it's a short run. You might also want to try the very end of Indian Point where the old river channel swings close to the bank. Fish slow in about 15' of water early and late.

I'm coming down the 13th through the 16th of October and am looking for some advice on smallmouth for this time of year. I fish LOZ and Pomme about 80% of the time so the few smallmouths I've caught (when fishing Table Rock & Stockton a few days a year)have been more by luck than skill.

I don't really know much about smallmouth patterns. Will they migrate back into creeks and onto secondary points or will they stay out closer to the main lake on the long gravel points and flats? I'm going to assume the areas with wind will be key. Any key things to look for?

I fished these exact areas last week while staying at Stillwater Resort and had the same result. We caught a really nice smallmouth on a spinnerbait, but caught most of them on a shakey head jig with a 4 inch grub. Don't get down there much, but visit the forum often so I figure I owe a report. Fished several points within Indian point and found smallmouth with the grub as well.
