Right now where I'm at it is 61 degrees and raining steadily. Tonight, and when I saw this I didn't believe it for a second, the temperature is actually supposed to drop into the upper 30s. How great is that!? I know this might, short term, not be the greatest thing for fishing, but this cold rain we're getting now is really what I have been hoping we would get for quite a while. It has been a long, hot, dry summer and the rivers need this badly. Plus there is simply no weather I like better than the cool, rainy, somewhat nasty variety, and luckily the trout (and the blue-winged olives) agree with me. Who else is happy to have this whole summer thing good and done for the year?

I love Missouri and the Ozarks about 10 months a year, but let me tell you that things go seriously downhill in July and August.

Amen to that. If we never ever had July and August again I wouldn't miss it for a second. Let's eliminate January and February while we're at it. Gotta love fall.

Yes, I think it is easily the best season of the year.

I LOVE IT probably more than most. Unfortunately I need July and August, but that doesn't mean I like it. Just got done planting a few food plots, may bow hunt tomorrow, went dove hunting last week, may teal hunt later in the week, probably fish today, tomorrow and the next. When will I have time to clean cabins and bathrooms, it can wait!

I am fan of the cooler weather as well. This morning was good sleeping weather... was tough to get out of bed for work. Looking forward to fishing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday this weekend.

Good luck. FIshing should be good this weekend, especially if you're after trout. They have to love this after some of the weather we've seen in the last few weeks.

Good luck to you as well OTF. It's 64 with some rain here at LOZ. I have witnessed a handful of monarchs passing through the past few days. Monarchs coincide with the fall run of browns.

Don't like the heat, but love the smallmouth fishing during the heat. From mid-September to late October it's great to be floating a river, but the fishing is the most inconsistent it will be all year. I've had a lot of REALLY bad fishing days in early to mid-autumn. In fact, it's one reason that we've decided to spend September and October in Montana; the fishing is great out here, mid-September to mid-October is the height of fall colors, the animals are prime in Yellowstone Park and the crowds have thinned. We will be coming back to MO in mid-October this year, just in time for the height of fall colors and the improvement in the fishing.

It's in the mid-50s out here today...first really cool day we've had.

That may well be true for smallmouth. You'd know a lot better than I. But I'm pretty much exclusively trout fishing by now which is simply wonderful in the fall, especially mid to late October. And lake/pond bass fishing gets really good as well.
