laker67 Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Really, so where do the large ones come from? Bennett consistently produced big rainbows that were said to have grown up in the stream. I suspect it is more a case of protection. There was a time when you couldn't see the bottom under the Rock bridge, in front of the whistle, the Suzy or the Bluff hole, just to name a few. These hiding places are pretty well gone. Your example of 30# browns and 18# "bows doesn't make sense to me. That could well be true, but if the Niangua can produce 6# browns, where are the 3# 'bows? Large rainbow come from the hatchery in the form of unproductive brood stock. A large rainbow growing up in the creek would be an exception, and I am sure it has happened. At taney they have a lake to hide in and not easily sight fished for several months of the year. That is not the case at the trout parks. Very few fish go undetected and survive from one season to the next. As far as the river goes, I can't tell you where those 3 pound rainbows are at, I can't even tell you where the 6 pound browns are at. All I can say is that larger browns show up in the lower park and rainbows do not during that time period.
laker67 Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 In the heydays of state park and Taney rainbow trout fishing;SPORTS AFIELD named BSState Park and LAKE TANEYCOMO the best places to land a trophy rainbow in the continental USA.That figure was based on returns of their annual awards programs for best in state awards.Found a tag from RRState park from a trip in October of 2002 with my son's lady friend at the time that was numbered 149858.We were there in August of this year and my tag was only 51901;With tag sales that low don't know what is needed to revive our sport. On a side note any suggestions on help trying to get a bench at one of the trout parks in memory of our son,Brett, who passed away last September 10.I have filled out the necessary forms and contacted the park Supt. twice but haven't had much success Hi JT, good to see you on here again. I will call Montauk tommorrow and remind the supt. Maybe some other OAF guys and gals will do the same. A few phone calls might help. My condolences once again my good friend.
10pointer Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Jeff, I'll ask Kevin A. (you know him im sure) how he went about getting a bench for his parents at White Oak hole at Montauk. I am so sorry for your loss. I will absolutely get the info for you tonight or tomorrow.
10pointer Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 Jeff, I talked with Kevin and he said to give him a call and he can help you with the memorial bench. Ill send you his number in a private message up top in your inbox.
Jeff Tief Posted September 22, 2011 Posted September 22, 2011 thanks all for your help;went from bad in July with Susie's 2nd bout with breast cancer and then losing Brett in September.Susie keeps busy teaching school and getting in some fly-fishing.Don't know how she does it.Lot of folk's on the trout streams know her as well as in of the park regulars. She's a little blonde lady who turns into the terminator when she gets her fly rod going.
