David Unnerstall Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I haven’t been able to leave the city since Turkey Season (where we did do well on crappie and white bass on Wappappello). My coworker tore his archilles tendon and I needed to cover on weekends. So besides the amazing accomplishment of getting on GotMuddy’s signature I managed to build a cedar strip solo canoe. I would guess Woodman would snicker if he got close to it but is does look good from about ten feet away – but I don’t look so good the closer you get either. I built the strongback from pallets: The molds and the first strip: Off the molds: After installing the inwales and deck: And the finished project: And my first fish caught from a farm pond on a Sammy:
kevthebassman Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 That's what I'd call a job well done sir. I remember your first post on this, when it was still under construction. I was impressed then, and still am. Not only with the craftsmanship, but with the fact that you managed to build a boat inside your house without being served divorce papers.
woodman Posted September 20, 2011 Posted September 20, 2011 Looks good Dave...What plan is it? That is determination to build one in the house, and a stripper does take craftsmanship. It is getting the epoxy to a smooth finish that I find a lot of work also.. http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/

Thank you, kevthebassman. If I built this in my basement I could not get it out. I have heard stories of that happening. I moved it to the carport for the epoxy process. And the wife couldn't give a "darn". Now when the Internet goes down that is a different situation.

Just curious, how in the world did you get that Sammy through that crap on that pond?!? Instead of a WTD type of retrieve I employed a DTC (drown-the-cat) type of retrieve. It did bring in a lot of foliage after each cast but I REALLY needed to catch some fish, if you know how it gets, and I knew I would in this pond. I am told all of that skims off after a rain but there had been none, recently.
FishinCricket Posted September 21, 2011 Posted September 21, 2011 Ah, got it! Can't say as I blames ya either, bro!! cricket.c21.com
