10pointer Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Anyone going this year? It would be fun to meet up with some of you guys if you are going down this weekend (oct 1st 2nd). Weather looks like it will be nice and cold and the stream looks like its going to be nice and clear. If you want a peaceful weekend of fishing with minimal people, then this isnt going to be the weekend to go, but its a fun atmosphere down there with all the events and music and stuff. And best part is it raises alot of money for the American Heart Association Hope to see some of you guys down there! Jason
3wt Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Ah, so it's time again for my yearly rant about how horribly inappropriate it is to have a tournament on an open weekend in the park. Have fun but TRY to have some respect for fisherman not participating in the tournament.

Rose Holland and Clarence Holland derby's have been going on for as long as I can remember. Maybe they should never have "opening day" on a weekend.

Really though if the meathunters could follow the same etiquette that the rest of us recognize it wouldn't be that big of a deal.
Idylwilde Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Most folks have manners and respect others, but there is about 5 guys who are the ones that spoil it for the rest. Just look at the lunker board at the lodge and you will see their names over & over. Also look at all the mounts in the lodge and note the names on the fish there. Every time a fish over 3# is put in the stream one or two of the same 4 show up shoving and pushing their way through people to get to that fish. SAD! Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.
Gavin Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 The park tourney's used to irk me a bit....but I got over it. Its a good draw for the park, and some of those MTFA tourney people volunteer a good bit of their time to help out with kid's day. Its a wash, IMO.
Idylwilde Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Everyone has a O & they do change with time Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.
ozark trout fisher Posted September 27, 2011 Posted September 27, 2011 Ah, so it's time again for my yearly rant about how horribly inappropriate it is to have a tournament on an open weekend in the park. Have fun but TRY to have some respect for fisherman not participating in the tournament. It shouldn't matter too much. It always feels to me like there is a tournament going on in the parks from March 1 to October 31. Such is the crazy atmosphere of the parks, you either love it, or like me, you have to stay away to keep your sanity.

Don't know why the park atmosphere has changed so much over the years. In the 60's and 70's park people were courteous and friendly. They would not crowd you and they would even respect your backcast by getting out of the creek and walking around wherever possible. Somewhere in the 80's that all changed. Crowds got bigger and some people were down right rude. I have always enjoyed fishing the parks, so I just learned to adapt and not let some jerk ruin my day on the water. I am convinced that some anglers will not change or be educated. There fore their kids grow up and have the same attitudes and so continues the cycle. Parks are still a good place to hone your trout fishing skills. Fish are abundant and not quite as tight lipped and wary as other places. Like OTF, you have to decide what you are willing to put up with, or as in his case, not be a part of.
Cocry Posted September 28, 2011 Posted September 28, 2011 I have always enjoyed fishing the parks, so I just learned to adapt and not let some jerk ruin my day on the water. THIS! My god people. The reason everyone's an asshole nowadays is because no one takes the time to be nice first. No one communicates nowadays except by dirty looks, stray fingers or mf'ing someone. There's nothing better than making a jerk realize that they're being a jerk when you turn around and say "Careful back there. I don't want to give you an unwanted piercing. " /end rant
