After All Of The Great Advice On The Blade Techniques . . . . My Results On 10/15

Thanks so much to all who shared advice on techniques for using a blade . . . . . I had a fun afternoon (1pm to 6pm) and a great learning experience with using the blade . . . . this was the first time ever that I truly gave the blade a chance . . . . but it won't be the last . . . . I purchased and threw the the War Eagle 3/8 ounce "mouse" spinnerbait and decided to put a trailer hook on it rather than a plastic trailer or going naked . . . . the wind was kicking up quite a bit so I decided to anchor off main lake points (one-by-one with gravel and chunk rock) with the wind blowing into them . . . . . I would anchor out far enough that I could come within 2 to 3 of the shoreline when casting with the wind at my back . . . . in most cases this would mean that the boat was in 15 to 20 feet of water . . . . . I tried burning, medium and erratic retrieves . . . to my surprise, most of the strikes came on erratic retrieves (throwing to the shoreline, burning it out 4 to 6 feet, pausing for a short fall, twitching it a couple of time "hard", resuming the retrieve in a medium to fast speed, letting it fall again for a second or two, two or three more hard twitches, etc . . . . . . . it seemed to me that most of the strikes came on the twitches after the fall . . . . . sometimes I would make 7 or 8 casts within 4 to 5 feet of the same spot or piece of structure before I would get bit . . . . 13 bass, all largemouth, 3 keeps (all released), largest only 2 1/2 lbs . . . . no damaged or deep-hooked fish . . . . I loved every moment of the afternoon . . . . this is a perfect example of how great this forum is and how generous everyone is in "teaching" members techniques of their own to enable others to share the joy of this great sport . . . . . thank you, thank you, thank you to all who were willing to share their techniques with this new and now much-more-confident spinnerbait beginner . . . . . Note: I could not get to Table Rock on this particular outing so I went to Stockton-dam area-Crabtree access . . . . hardly anyone on the lake . . . . looking forward to next week when I will be able to make it for a day to Table Rock to try the blade . . . I will report back . . . . I sure like that War Eagle "mouse" blade

Glad you caught some and got some confidence in that blade. It's very productive this time of year, provided conditions are right.

C188 . . . . another first for me is the way your wrist feels after continually throwing the blade for 5 hours . . . . burning, twitching, burning, twitching . . . . . . . the next morning I felt like I had a sprained wrist . . . . . KVD must be an animal!

Well done crackleback! Don't let anyone tell you fishing isn't a sport. I usually feel like I did P90x or something after throwing a blade for 8hrs :D Glad you tried some various retrieves and I think a lot of guys make the mistake of just casting out and reeling back. That works on the days they are biting but not so much on the days you need to make them bite. Again well done...
