Recommended Posts

Its been a while since I did a little night fishing ..

I did get out last night and fished for a little bit..

stuck with the new Sculpin Helmet from Flymen Fishing company..

I did catch quit a few fish (maybe 30) below outlet 2 and waded across to fish the south side...

These really make for a nice sculpin!!

Hey Leonard, the 14.5 lber that centerpunch witnessed caught yesterday evening was found belly up at # 3 this morning. Jerod looked at the fish and verified that it was the same one. Chuck took the fish to his shop and mdc was going to pick it up from him.

They came by today and showed us the pic= left us a copy. I asked about how it swam away... they said it was a 30 minute fight.

I was afraid of that.

It is EXTREMELY hard to catch and release any big fish right now. I don't fault the anglers... what are you going to do? Not go fishing? Not try to catch big fish?

Catch 22

I know long fights is hard on the fish right now so I understand to land them quickly and release quickly also. Do you have any tips when catching & releasing this time of year when the DO levels are lower? I want to try my hardest to not kill any fish.

"There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home."

According to the report I heard, the fish was weighed on a boga, which is a no-no, weigh the net with the fish in it. It was also taped and probably a pic or two, that's too much even when they are in good shape. Most of these fish are killed after the fact, it's not the battle that does them in.

Life time fish - lots of excitement.

I killed a 13-pound brown years ago just that way. I didn't realize I'd kept it out too long and it didn't survive.

I wish it wasn't dead but it's going to happen.

Keys to releasing live - try to land it as quick as possible. Don't use 7x. Use 5x if possible. Keep the fish in the water at all times- in a net. If you take a pic- lift the fish up just long enough to snap the pic. Work with the fish in the water, preferably close or in an outlet where the o2 is high for as long as it takes for it to swim off aggressively and watch it if you can. Don't assume the fish is ok just because it swam off.

I was the person who caught the rainbow and know that the fish was kept in the water in the net then on a boga, a few fish pics taken and a measurement.. what seemed like 5 minutes maybe more but every effort was made to keep it alive. The fish did swim off on it's own and I dont believe the fish Chuck picked up haD the same measurements (33" x 18.5"). Does anyone know the length of the one Chuck found? I wasnt aware the boga weight would put so much stress on a fish but appreciate the tip.

Also, the fish was caught on 6lb maxima and the fight was as what it was.. a big fish isnt going to just give up.

Congrats on catching that huge rainbow. The fish chuck had was 31 x 21, that was the only thing that Jerod had in question. Could well have been another fish. Next time just weigh the net and the fish together. Most nets are a pound or less. Point your net hoop upstream and when the fish is ready he will swim out. The net bag actually helps keep the fish upright as he is recovering. Other than hanging it on the boga, you did everything else good. Once again, a great catch.
