Members Fly Fishing Pete Posted October 10, 2011 Members Posted October 10, 2011 Maybe this is a stupid question, but I'm fairly new to trout fishing. Why does MDC ban soft plastics in certain trout streams? Do they make the fish too easy to catch?
jdmidwest Posted October 10, 2011 Posted October 10, 2011 It is the fact that they hook deeper than most artificial baits increasing mortality. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson

You can still fish with scented bait and still fishing allows the fish to take the bait deep causing higher mortality. Other soft plastic baits don't have the same effect like jerk baits or swim baits but they can't make the distinction between the two... they have to ban it all.
