Well I tried Pickle Creek in Hawn park. I hiked down from the camp ground to the river and down stream a tad. My guess is I covered three plus miles in all. It was a pretty hike with undercut ozark cliffs in mulitple locations, ducks, squirrel, snakes. It was a lot of work, and I'm a little soar this morning. There were a lot of sections with slick and/or loss rock. I did end up catching around ten small mouth, a few blue gill (surprised I didn't see more), and some creek chubs. I biggest smallmouth was around 8 to 10 inches and the smallest three. I also caught an 8 inch chub (I didn't know they got that big). I didn't find that sweet little honey hole six to eight feet deep, and the river was a smaller than I was expecting. It wasn't much bigger then the creek. So, I'll keep looking for "my perfect little hole". Still better then a day in my windowless office.

How did that little chub fight? I caught a 9 or 10 incher a few weeks ago and he was a lot of fun. I was quite surprised as well but I guess they can approach 10 or 11 inches.

"Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing." John 21:3 KJV

If you don't catch 'em at night, try again in the morning.

It was a nice fight on my 5' ultralight and micro reel. Thought it was a smallmouth until I got it in.

Pick up a copy of Ozark Hideaways by Louis White....some of his suggestions involve a bit of tresspassing though.

I got my copy this afternoon. Gave it a quick review and it looks like it will be a lot of fun and help out on my perfect little hole. Thanks.

Sounds like fun to me. I need to get into some small mouth. My favorite little creek has nothing but the spotted variety when it comes to bass. MAybe I'll bump into you on one of these little creeks.

Chubs have to be the most underrated Ozark fish, those and drum. They fight! I've been known to forget that I'm supposed to be looking for trout for 15 minutes or so when I get into a whole bunch of 8 inch chubs on the upper Current...
