Anyone have experience with "Wright & McGill Skeet Reese Signature Series Tri-Gressive™ S-Glass Crankbait Trigger Rods " ? I would have bought a BPS Crankin Stick this morning, but the price went up 10 bucks over night.. Just enough to piss me off. ;) So I am looking to buy a good crankbait specific rod- under $100 . I think I will give one of these Skeet Reese glass rods a try and report back in a couple of weeks..

I have one of the s glass rods, the wife got it for $50 at the outlet store. Pros: you can sling the CRAP out of a crankbait with it and it is very flexible. I can chunk big baits as well as tiny ones. Cons: heavy, very heavy and the hook keeper is useless.

Check out denali rods jadewood series: http://denalirods.com/?page_id=292 they are based out of Mountain Home.

everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

Ahh crap I hate heavy rods... Hook keeper for crankbaits is always useless... I always use the velcro sleeve things for crankbaits.. Keeps ME safe too :)

My 2 cents here. I did a lot of research and gathered info on various rods for jigs, cranks, finesse stuff, jerkbaits, etc etc. Most of the guys said that BPS rods are for the most part not very good. But the one rod that BPS makes that lots of guys said was good especially for the money was the BPS crankin' stick. When you are cranking sensitivity is not all that big of a deal as it is a reaction strike. If you don't plan on fishing much the rest of the fall or winter you might want to hold off on buying a rod and wait til the spring sales at Bass Pro or other tackle shops. When BPS do their annual spring classic sale stuff you can get their rods on sale for $10-30 or more off the original price.

Agreed, I have had a Crankin Stick before. I am fishing next weekend and need a crankbait rod now. I would have bought another Crankin Stick even at 69.99, but I woke up yesterday all prepared to head to Bass Pro, & looked online for something else & discovered BPS raised the price TEN BUCKS 79.99 on me overnight. That was just enough to send me to another rod. When they go on sale over the winter at the usual sale price of 49.99 , I will get one anyway in another length.

I have a couple of Crankin' Stiks and they aren't bad for the money. They are exactly what they say and not jerkbait or topwater rods and they won't make do either..

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

So I use the rod, nothing special. Kinds "fat" compared to my BPS Crankin Stick ( which I found 3 days later) !!!! I guess the only belifit to the yellow Skeet Reese, is its easy to see on deck or in the locker. I'd stick with the BPS Crankin Stick if I were still lookin... Now I have this big butt yellow thing- I may as well try them side by side next time..and yes, the hook keeper ? What were they thinking !

I don't want any part of the glass/graphite cranking rods. They are always heavy, and have an overly "mushy" feeling. If there is any kind of rod that you don't want a lot of extra weight, it would be a cranking rod, because it's hard enough work to use crankbaits for a full day as it is.

What I look for in a cranking rod is something in graphite that is medium light power and a moderate action. While finding a rod that is RATED medium light/moderate is rare, if you go to someplace like BPS or Cabelas and hold the rods in your hand, bend them, shake them, etc. you'll find that some are more "limber" and more moderate in action than others, even though they may all have a medium/fast rating...especially the cheaper ones. My current canoe cranking rod is a 5'6" medium light BPS Tourney Special...less than $50. And although I got a deal I couldn't pass up on a Loomis crankbait rod that I'm using for my longer boat fishing rod, I suspect the 6 ft. or 6.5 ft. medium Tourney Special would probably serve the purpose. I hate the goofy "Power Hump" handle on BPS rods, but I just sand it down.
