Members jwpage Posted October 24, 2011 Members Posted October 24, 2011 I will be at lake Taney Nov. 6 thru 9. I am staying at Lily's Landing. I have never fly fished on Taney and would like some advice on tippet, tackle and flies selections from anyone that would like to help. Also, any good spots to fish that are accessible wading. Thanks in advance. John "The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope." John Buchan
duckydoty Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 You should have a good time on Taney this week. 5 and 6x tippet in flouro carbin is what I would suggest during the day. The upper section has many spots that are wadeable even with one unit running like they are predicting for all week with the draw down. Fishing scuds, sow bugs, and midges under and indicator will be your best bet for catching lots of fish. All of these flies should be in the 12 to 20 size range. Sow bugs and scuds in tans and grays, midges in zebra, black, and rusty colors. Fly rod choice during the day should be anywhere from 3 wt to 5 wt. Fish both midges and sow bugs, or scuds under an indicator. Midges only about 8 to 12 inches under the smallest indicator you can get away with and no lead or weight added. Anywhere you see rising fish, cast as softly as possible in that area and let the midge drift under the indicator. Sow bugs and scuds can be fished with or with out the indicator. In the shallow water where you can see fish tailing, cast the sow bug without an indicator and use very small stripps to strip it back in. 1/2 to 1 inch strips with some pausing between sets of 3 or more strips. This should catch some fish for you. Anywhere there is current, fish the sow bug under an indicator at a depth of 1 1/2 times the water depth. You might need to use some split shot to get the fly down. Make sure you cast up stream and mend when needed. You want the fly to catch on the bottom every now and then, but not all the time. Adjust depth of indicator as necessary. Good luck to you and hope this helped some. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at.. Ozark Trout Runners

Members jwpage Posted November 10, 2011 Author Members Posted November 10, 2011 Just got back from my Taney trip and stay at Lilly's Landing. First, the lodging and facilities were very clean and well maintained. Very happy with the accommodations and staff. I stayed with my mother and father in room #9 next to the office. As for the fishing, I didn't do too well. A bit disappointed. I only caught one rainbow out of 4 days but at least I did catch one. Maybe the next time I will do better. I went below the darn on Monday and then again on Tuesday and was unable land any fish. Thanks Phil and your staff.
