I have been looking at both the Lamson Konic and the Allen Trout fly reels. Both are about the same price. Wondering if anyone has fished with both reels and what their recommendations would be. Wanting to give my wife ideas for Christmas... Thanks!

I have both and I would say Konic. My alpha 3/5 reel is kind of jacked up. The part that lies against the rod is crooked on my 3 wt and I had to kind of force it in there which put some nicks on my rod. I also have an Allen 5/6 Trout reel which is smooth as a mofo, but i'd say the konic is where it's at.

How would you guys compare the Lamson Konic to the Ross Flyrise? I have two Konics, but have been wanting to try out a Ross Flyrise.

Looks as if the Lamson Konic is the winner here. i have temple fork 9ft 4wt. would i be best served to get the 1.5 or 2.0? Thanks for the feedback.

Yep I think getting the konic is a good choice. Mine has been through hours of small trout stream fishing and is still as smooth as the day i bought it

The Ross Flyrise isnt a bad design.....but its got a smaller diameter spool than the Konic in similar sizes...Look at them side by side and youll probably go with the Konic.

One thing you may want to look at is weight- the Konic is 4.4 ounces while the Flyrise is 4.7. Not a huge different but could be noticeable. I think I would go with the 1.5 for a four weight- I am sure the 2 would be fine though- I'm just thinking weight. Plus I don't usually worry about backing capacity on a four weight. Ive handled both reels and own both brands (though not those models) and I prefer Lamson- especially for their value reels. Upper tier Ross's are incredible... but so are lamsons. Lamson's lower models are just plain better in my opinion. I have an old Radius 2 and it has been awesome.
