Congratulations to Eli and kuddos to Dad for taking him out! I'm sure his proud grin at having provided dinner for the family made up for any questions (before and after the shot) that he had. I can't wait for my sons to be old enough to take out!

Sure makes deer hunting fun again. Went out last night with Eli and watched 4 does for about 20 minutes parade around our stand. One came within 10 yards and Eli whispered to me "She's just begging to get shot" Eli then grunted in a "pretty nice 8 point" according to Eli, which came in behind us, I would have loved for Eli to shoot it, but I knew we couldn't get turned without him seeing us, so we just watched him check the area for does and move on. It was nice to see deer and not shoot one, good lesson for the boy that you don't have to kill something to have a good time.

I then taught him why we unload our rifle before lowering it from the stand, somehow I didn't get it tied properly and watched it hit the ground from 15 feet up, didn't hurt it, but I need to go shoot it before I go hunt to make sure it's still on.
