Trout Commander Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Thanks guys, it was a great fish! Stockers that everyone were catching seemed to the be the normal 12-14" that they dump out in the park. I guess only the wild fish are smart enough to grow to the stature of 26" huh? I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Thom Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 I guess only the wild fish are smart enough to grow to the stature of 26" huh? Actually several lunkers are stocked at Busch lakes each winter just all of the folks there don't release them so unless you are there or have a nighbor or friend that witness them it just don't get reported. My grandson caught one last year and released it at 21. Thom Harvengt
MOsmallies Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Nice Bow! What'd you get her on?... Fly or Spinning Tackle?
Members T Hood Posted November 14, 2011 Members Posted November 14, 2011 Great Catch!! I went out today. It was not very good between the high winds and high temps. I didn't think they put Rainbows in 33 or 35. The hotline lists 21, 22, 23, 24, and 28 with 21 and 28 being catch & release. If they're in there, please confirm. Also, where do you go to nab muskie from the bank on Lake 35? Still have to give that a try.
mic Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Stupid question, but how exactly to fly fish for lake bows. I assume you use streamers and strip the line? Any other techniques?

stlfisher Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Yeah you can twitch the flies and sometimes that helps out. Most often I just let it sit under an indicator and let the waves impart the action. Since they are stocker fish trout parks stuff work the best initially, but then they wise up after a few weeks (in the C/R lakes). Windy days can make casting tough, but usually the fish are more active than the dead calm days. Stripping has been hit and miss for me, but it does work at times...sinking line would help in that regard.
Outside Bend Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Twitching/stripping soft hackles can be extremely effective, too. <{{{><

Might go out this weekend and try, but I usually rent a boat for that lake. "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
