Trevor K Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 We're staying at Pointe Royale for Thanksgiving and are planning on doing some fishing while we're down there. I've never been to that part of the lake. Is there some good fishing right there? Any advice on how to fish right now? I've been tying up some zebra midges. They working right now? I'd like to do some night fishing too. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
duckydoty Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 Good fishing in that area. I usually fish a little above that area. Midges always work on Taney. Lately, I've been doing good on white chamy worms and micro eggs. Night fishing is a good time to throw streamers if the water is off. My go to streamer is a white mink sculpin, but olives, blacks, and othere colors will work also. Make sure your gonna check out the area during the day that you want to fish at night. DaddyO Posted November 23, 2011 Posted November 23, 2011 I was at Taney a couple of weeks ago. We were unable to catch the water down at night, but we fished every night with a lot of success. I caught so many fish that I got tired of fishing. DD offered good advice if the water is down. However, if the water is up and you still want to night fish then my suggestion is that you use the same setup that we did. You can purchase a few lighted indicators from Lilleys Landing fly shop. Buy a half dozen or so of Jeremy Hunts Miracle Fly Egg and a dozen of the UV Scuds in a size #18 or #16. Tie the Egg as the first fly and the Scud as a dropper. You can get all of that at Lilleys Fly Shop. We fished around Outlet #2 using this rig with a 5x tapered leader and 5x tippet. We usually had the area to ourselves. I normally don't fish the outlets, but when the water is up, it's about the only place to fish unless you have a boat. Have a good trip! Trevor K Posted November 28, 2011 Author Posted November 28, 2011 Just got back from our trip. Did pretty well. Rented a boat from Lilley's one day and fished with bait. Everybody in our group caught fish. Didn't do much night fishing, because the water was always high. Did pick up a few with the spinning gear one of the nights though. Cleos were working pretty well right outside our condo. Went up to River Run Outfitter and got some advice for using the fly rod and ended up catching quite a few fish that way too. Seemed like they bit really well when there was a light rain. Overall it was a pretty good trip.

Idylwilde Posted November 28, 2011 Posted November 28, 2011 Try-ed to fish at outlet #1 Saturday. The Key word is Try-ed. The water was up to the last step and there were about 6 anglers gathered up on the outlet. They were catching fish on just about anything that hit the water. I was able to squeeze in about 10 yards below the outlet and roll cast a midge out about 20 feet. Caught 3 and missed two Then there was a guy came down to the dam side of the outlet and started free drifting as spin cast rig down river. Then my cast was not touching the water because of being on top of his line, he was free drifting almost 30 yards below me. After loosing 2 flies and tippets because of the tangles on his 10lb line and no hint of him not doing it anymore. I moved up river to about 100 yards below the dam. was able to cast and fish there for awhile I only caught 2 Largmouth bass and one little brown trout. The rain started coming down and the wind blow hard. I moved towards the car and decided to try the outlet again because some people had gone to the house. I managed to make one cast before the same guy with the opinion he owned the river from outlet 1 to the Landing. I broke off again and the guy did say he was sorry, I agreed with him and packed up and called it a day. I mentioned to one guy that it was just about like Trout Park Fishing. He just laughed. I guess wverywhere has it's guy's that make the day go by faster. Take a Child Fishing they are the future of the sport.
