abkeenan Posted November 24, 2011 Posted November 24, 2011 Planning on trying out some new reels next year and am planning on getting a Lew's Speed Spool which is $89.99 at TW and supposedly a nice reel for that sort of price point. Going to use it as my jerkbait chucker on a 6'2"M rod. Should I go with the 6.4 or 7.1 Lew's for jerkbait and maybe topwater? I also want a higher speed reel for burning blades and the Okuma Krios @ $104.99 looks pretty cool and is a 7.3:1 gear reel. So anyone have any experience with the Krios or Okuma baitcasters in general?
Sore Thumbs Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 Not sure about either one of those. I have heard some good things about the Lew's though. I would go with the 6.4.1 Just because it is more versitle. You will have a lot more need for the 6.4 than than the burner. If you have plenty of reels already in your arsenal than go with the 7 to 1. I will say that TW has some of last years Shimano Curados left over for $119 I think. I believe you would be happier with that than either of those 2 you picked out. If TW doesn't have them I would check with Aaron or Chris at Hook,Line and Sinker in Rogers. They ordered me one for the same price that TW was advertising.
abkeenan Posted November 25, 2011 Author Posted November 25, 2011 I have the past few years model green curado now and love it. Had it for two years and its the best reel I've ever owned. But I paid $180 or $190 for it as compared to these other two in the $100 or under range. These two reels would be more specific presentation set ups and not my true work horse outfits so I don't really justify spending the money as I would for my jig, c-rig and crank stuff. TW only has LH models left in the 50 model curado so that isnt a possibilty. Then Shimano really just switched the names around between their citica, curado and chronarch. The chronarch is actually the last model curado per specs of the reel. Then they down graded the curado and dropped the price like 20-30 bucks and then upped the citica by 10 bucks. Don't really know what Shimano was thinking but thats why I'm sure they pay there merchandizing, marketing, etc. people the big bucks and know what they are doing to sell reels and make profits. Anywho thanks for the advice.
Sore Thumbs Posted November 25, 2011 Posted November 25, 2011 I am pretty sure you can get one through Hook, line and sinker in a right hand for the same money. Send me your number and I will talk to them for you if you want me to. If not I'm sure those others will be ok.
Members sitting fishing Posted November 25, 2011 Members Posted November 25, 2011 just a thought but have you looked at us reel's supercaster?
abkeenan Posted November 27, 2011 Author Posted November 27, 2011 Thanks for the offer sore thumbs thats really nice of you to be willing to help someone out like that but I went ahead and placed an order with Tacklewarehouse. Hard to beat the Black Friday 20% off nearly everything they have. Got the Lew's Speed Spool for $72 bucks with no tax and no shipping cost. Don't think that can be beat by any other place. Since I didn't spend $100 I figured I'd throw in 5 of the new Luck E Strike RC Sticks in there just for good measure Now I can tonight knowing I will have them. The sickness has struck again and I am already off the wagon.
