rps Posted January 15, 2012 Posted January 15, 2012 I have liked all your work, but this will probably be my favorite.
Buzz Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 I agree with rps. This is my favorite too. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
Gavin Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Your build looks fantastic!....ever think about a wood & canvas canoe?.
woodman Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 Canvas is not as strong as polyester or nylon ...also I think it is heavier... Check this out http://kudzucraft.kudzupatch.com/video/toughboat.php http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
woodman Posted January 20, 2012 Author Posted January 20, 2012 I noticed when stapling the fabric (8oz. dacron polyester) it would sometimes cause a run in the stitching, it looked like it was pushing the weave into the wood. It is like uneven in the tightness of the fabric..more of something you can feel than see... ironing to shrink the fabric made it all even out... With a flash light right up along the side, the material has no wrinkles in it. Now it is ready for paint, oil based rustoleum http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
Gavin Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Looking great...but by wood & canvas I was refering to a classic Maine style boat...steam bent ribs, planked, then covered with canvas and painted...kinda like this. http://www.wooden-canoes.com/gallery/canoebuilding/
woodman Posted January 21, 2012 Author Posted January 21, 2012 Wow a lot of time would go into one of those...and they are going to be heavier than this type construction.. http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
woodman Posted January 29, 2012 Author Posted January 29, 2012 Tarrek and his mom Carole came over..we painted a few coats of paint... Carole started working on a paint design based off one of my pipe stone carvings... http://s147.photobucket.com/albums/r302/scrawford_photos/
rps Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 When this is completed, can we come see it or will you exhibit somewhere. I am totally impressed.
rps Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 My father had a canvas hulled car top boat in the early 50's. I think he called it a Pinon. Your project brings back very good memories.
