My friend Justin of Sunburst Ranch fame on the NFOW came over to do some smallmouth fishing on the Eleven Point. We caught 3 trout, 4 Goggle eye and untold numbers of Smallmouth. All fish were caught on 1/16th oz marabou jigs under an indicator on fly rods. Lots of fun! We lack pictures because my battery was dead and Justin had a full memory card. Oh well.

That's awesome!! On the eleven point, do the smallies bite all winter like trout do, due to the cold water? I'm really wanting to try some smallies on the Eleven point here in Arkansas!!

There's no such thing, as a bad day fishing!

We were fishing in Missouri and i am not as familiar with the fishing on the Arkansas side. That said, in Missouri, if you find the right holes you can catch them in the winter. Look for springs that can warm the river.

EVERYONE owes it to him or herself to hire Brian for a day this winter and try the smallmouth action. Under the right conditions double digit numbers of 13-19" fish is a real possibility. I'm not talking double digit numbers per day, I'm talking per hour. Ask for a trip for Christmas, sell your youngest kid, do whatever it takes because the fishing was incredible. Saw no other people, two eagles, 7 deer standing in the river and Brian finally figured they must be eating water cress, all in all a great trip. I easily caught more smallmouth on flyrod in the 3 hours of fishing yesterday than I had in all my trips put together, granted I'm usually working during the best smallmouth seasons, but still. To heck with trout, I'm a smallmouth man now!

Sure sounds like a lot of fun while I'm stuck here at work. :serious-business: If you don't mind me asking, what stretch of river were you on?

I'd bet dollars to donuts that they never got farther than 100 yards from the Greer spring outlet...

Sell your youngest kid for a fishing trip? Is Brian's rates that high?

I have caught some nice smallies this time of year in the upper stretch. I almost think they move up river into the "warmer" spring water.

There are a few big springs that are stinking with smallmouth this time of year, and Greer is second biggest in the state.....Bet Justin can find a spot or two closer to home..

Just need some color to the water here, nice thing on the point was a chalkiness to the water which concealed us. Too clear and low here, but some color and it's on like D.K.
