My annual trip with my dad to Bennett Springs has been moved to the Norfork this May. I'm looking for a day to get away from the crowds, some hiking, and small water fishing. I'm falling in eLove with North Sylamore Creek and Hiking Trail. I think I want to hike upstream from Gunner Pool Rec Area to Barkshed Rec Area.

Does anyone know anything about the fishing in the creek?

How about the trail? I read that it is well marked with great scenory?

Does anyone know about livery services in this area? I would like to make this a one way trip.

Is floating this creek an option?

Which topo map(s) covers the creek?

Any info would be a help.

Thanks in Advance,

MIC

I live on South Sylamore Creek. It's generally floatable in May. (see my profile pic for fishing...) North SYlamore is only floatable directly after big rain event. North Branch not known for fishing. Send me a PM for livery service details....

Gunner Pool is gorgeous and well worth the trip. The fishing is just OK - small stream with mostly small fish, but the clarity of the water puts gin to shame. Blanchard Springs caverns is also close by and and fun if you like cave tours. I was on N. Sylamore creek last May around the time of the big rains and I couldn't see how you would get a canoe down it. Better off hiking and wading.

I looked at that run, but it appears to be on private land. Not being local, I didn't know that norms/rules were. It looks like a really nice run though.

Just a quick image to whet your appetite for visiting GP.

Worth visiting even if there were no fish!post-11511-1323620610498_thumb.jpg
