Justin Spencer Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 10 years $250 million! I was on record saying if the Cards didn't re-sign Albert I would quit cheering for them. Looking back on it I was letting emotion control my thinking. Luckily the Cards didn't do the same. I wish they would have signed him 2 years ago to a long term deal but they blew it then. Can't blame the Cards or Albert for their parting of ways. Albert is now the highest paid 1st baseman, and the Cards can spend 20 million a year to plug some other holes. In the long term I think both the Cardinals and Pujols are big winners. In the short term, watch out for the Angels, who also added C.J. Wilson. MaxDrown Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 In my opinion, the Cardinals should have matched or exceeded that offer and done it a long time ago. They have two world series with Pujlos and look at his incredible numbers. I appreciate more a team with players who stick around. Like Chipper Jones of the Braves for example. So now we have Lance Berkman at 1st base ... -- Max Drown
jah Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I'm a huge Cardinal fan, and I'm so happy to see him go. He was a fraud. He didn't run out ground balls, and I don't think he played very hard. It's hard to go to a game and watch him lollygag down the basepaths. I've coached baseball for 14 years, and it sickens me to see him lollygag and then kids idolize him. Good writtence.....
stlfisher Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I too felt his personality didn't alway reflect what he claimed he stood for and I think this kind of proves that. I also agree the Cadinals screwed up by not signing him to an extension years ago. I wanted him as a Cardinal, but for that kind of money and that kind of length...I'll pass. The last 3 or 4 years of that contract is going to be brutal. I just heard on the radio (KMOX) and this has suppossedly been confirmed for real. They are serving free Angel food cake as dessert at his restaurant in St. Louis. Not cool.
jah Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 For such a "Christian", he sure has an inflated ego and a love of money. I honestly don't begrudge him going for as much $$ as he could, but please don't lie to us and say "it's not about the money". Just say, "He who pays me the most will get my services." Then I'm fine, because it's honest. The Cardinals just made a VERY wise move, and they will still draw 3 million fans. I'll be one of those 3 million now. I wouldn't have if they signed Pujols to an outrageous contract.
Gavin Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I think the Cardinals made the right move. They have a good team with or without Albert and now they have $20M in the budget for new talent.
Justin Spencer Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 For such a "Christian", he sure has an inflated ego and a love of money. Kind of like the evangelical right? Pujols has done a ton of charity work and an extra $50 million or so will go a long way to help many of his causes. Everyone knows money and respect has a lot to do with it. I think 3 years ago the Cards upset Albert by not tackling his contract and instead adding a huge contract to the payroll bu signing Holliday. Don't act like you wouldn't be a little pissed if you were one of the best players of all time and weren't being paid accordingly. I'm happy for both sides now the Cardinals better do something with that extra cash! I just heard on the radio (KMOX) and this has suppossedly been confirmed for real. Didn't you trust my sources, c'mon man! I was talking about the Angel Food Cake at his restaurant not that Albert was going to Angels. I trust ya man...I think!
Justin Spencer Posted December 8, 2011 Author Posted December 8, 2011 That is not cool, everyone should go order water and Angel Food cake, send me a piece if you can. snap Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 I am confused...I heard him say it is "not about the money".....apparently it is about the money!!!! The Cardinals did everything they could to keep him St louis for his entire career. When his contract came up, they offered him a very good deal....he decided to try free agency. They then countered with 10 years at 220.....c'mon man, where's the loyalty???!!! They may as well close the doors on that restraunt in St louis and blow the statue up that sits in front of it!!! IMO......
