Trout Commander Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 That would be it. If I ever get caught up on Clousers and such I'm going to tackle them. They're looking good Bass Commander. Thanks. I've played with tying the Sili-Dad some more and I like it even better now. I'll post some more pictures when I can. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. fishinwrench Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Ron, yeah there's a 1/40oz. Dumbell hidden in there... They look awesome in the sink and cast way better than I expected on my 7wt., and no problem at all on a 9, the Silicone is very light compared to regular "gear type" plastic . It'll be awhile yet before any of the local bass get to judge them but I have a real good feeling about it. A "Senko" type fly is in the works, as soon as I deplete the market of green-pumpkin Sili-legs.
Arofishing Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Here's my first, and last Hula Popper. These are a pain in the butt and I'd feel sorry for anyone tying them commercially. If I did them to sell they'd be almost 100 bucks apiece. How does one get the legs to come out the back of the popper like that? Did you use thread and then glue over it?
fishinwrench Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I carved out a nice butthole to accept the tie-in area of the silicone.
dave potts Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 That's an interesting looking fly Wrench. Did you form it by braiding several strands of leg material to get the body? Dave

Dave Thanks Dave, Yeah, it's 22 strands of Sili-legs, furled together. How's things in the brick city? You should come down and hit the whites and green/brown bass with us this Spring. Gazer was asking about you the other day.

You should come down and hit the whites and green/brown bass with us this Spring. Gazer was asking about you the other day. Hopefully I can make it down by then. Right now I'm tied up through March with trips to Columbia for radiation treatments for prostate cancer. I was diagnosed with it about 18 months ago and had it taken out 15 months ago but they didn't get it all. I've got 37 more treatments to go. Just hoping that gets whats remaining. Tell Gaithel hello for me. Dave
rfd515 Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Bumping this since it's about that time of year. This is tied on a 4 ought, for raising only the biggest of monsters.
rfd515 Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 That looks cool, rfd. Is it stacked discs? It's just two strips secured to the shank then folded over, basically tied like a foam mouse pattern but with two strips instead of one. Secure the green strip to the shank first then the yellow strip, whatever you want the top color to be goes on first. The body material is just schlappen. That's tied on a gami octopus, but the best option is a gami finesse wide gap weedles imo.
