Members Dollar Bill Posted January 7, 2012 Members Posted January 7, 2012 Hey guys, Put in at Mutton this morning about 9:30. Sure was a lot windier than I had hoped for (and forecast!) Had the ole 74lb thrust Minn Kota at 50% just to stay put on some points... Pretty much threw a tennessee shad Wart most of the day. Also gave some time to the jerk bait, swimming grub and crappie jig too. Fished my way from the bridge to about 1/2 way to CC stopping at some known points and bluff ends. Also tried some 45* chunk rock banks. Not a bite! Started driving north and ended up in Greaser. Went about 1/2 way back then 1/2 way back in the big cuts. Found them there. Not fast and furious but had 6 14 somethings in an hour. It may have been the same fish over and over They were pretty shallow, about 5-7 on sloping gravel banks. A lot less moss than some of the main lake banks. Then went across near Mutton and hung a nice 18" LM. All bites were on the shad wart. I threw a crawdad wart quite a bit too but they didn't want it... Didn't see any shad balls but with the wind it's hard to tell. A lot of gulls up the river diving on something... Saw a couple of eagles, some loons and the biggest flock of turkeys I've ever seen, over 50 for sure. Pretty cool. Got off the water around 4. All in all, for January, a really nice day on the water. Bill Is this fun or what!

Walcrabass Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Sounds like you are fishing some of my most favoritist parts of the lake. Isn't it great to be able to catch them on a Crankbait this time of year?? Just thinking from reading your report that a Tube or a Jig might have caused more bites/fish in the boat. I also believe you might have had 50% or so larger than 15". Not trying to be a know it all but that has been my experience in the colder months. Glad you had a good day fishing. Thanks for fighting the wind...maybe it will be a little worn down for me on my next trip.
waterpossum Posted January 8, 2012 Posted January 8, 2012 Put in at North Mutton creek ramp yesterday at 2 pm. As I was leaving out a guy in a bass boat pulled in to load up. He said he had caught 9 keeper bass and 3 walleye on a stick bait. I did go fishing for crappie and took out at 5 with a limit of crappie and one 15" walleye. Bite was best in the last hour. For some reason, no matter the weather the last hour is usually real good for all species on Stockton.
