Lilley,

Look forward to the upcoming tourney. The trophy has been dusted off (hope it was cleaned for nothing as my buddy says he's grown accustom to seeing it in his living room) :)

This "Best Boat for Taney" has almost as many hits as the "to keep or not keep trout" topic. :) Almost as many opinions too. :D :D

Here is my opinion. Any boat is good as long as it is safe, somewhat comfortable and you are able to and are using it to fish.

Bud

I would rather be fishin'.

Amen.

And I'll add one last thing...

It runs when it's supposed to!

I am thinking of buying a new boat. My favorite place to fish is Tanycomo, and TRL to. Any thoughts of what would be the IDEAL boat for Tany. I was thinking maybe a Tracker bass boat with a jet... for easy moving up the trophy area. I have seen some fishing shows that feature funky boats for fishing fast moving trout streams out west and in Alaska. They are very pointed with high sides. I have had some troubles when Tany was in full generation mode. I have rented boats from Lilly quite a few times. Overall they did quite well, but not something I would invest in. Lilly had some 4 stoke engines that were just fabulous for slow speed.

Thanks in advance!

Rapman - I Have been running a 115 four stroke Merc. on a blazer 100 gauge aluminum hull with a 5 degree V, It does great on lakes and gets 5 miles per gallon on gas. I have used it at Tany, Lake of the woods in Canada (big waves there), Bullshoals, Meramac and Gasconade. I'm extreamly happy with it on longer lake runs over a flat bottom boat and it does well in skinny water also. I saw one at AArons in Rolla that was really reasonable last week. Worth a look.

It seems to me that the flat bottom river boats are the boats of choice so far. Not much has been said about the larger boats. So my question is, how far up would you be able to go with a Tracker Pro Guide V-16 with a 75 merc on it? This comming from a person who has spent no time on Taneycomo in a boat much past Forsythe. I do most of my fishing in waders. Any thought would be appreciated. Thanks a ton.

No sir, never got 'em. I figured you were getting me back for taking a month to get the measurements for you :)

This year the tournaments may be interesting with the water situation. What did it take to win the Boswell event?

Looking forward to Saturday!

7.14 pounds if I remember right.

I think I'm now behind a couple of years... not good.

Besides getting the long trout boat, I would recommend getting a flat bottom. Something like an Xpress or War Eagle boat. They are great for trout fishing and you are able to still fish the big lakes. I never have trouble doing either. I have room for my regular rods and my fly fishing gear. You can get them set up any way you need them. Good luck.
