Al Agnew Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 The Buffalo has a 10 hp limit, which precludes the use of jetboats, but locals often run the lower river in johnboats with small motors when the water is up a bit. I like later in the summer for fishing, but the paddling is more pleasant earlier when the river is a little higher. You can find pretty good fishing just about anywhere on the river when the conditions are right, but the lower end should be improving steadily with the one fish, 18 inch limit.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Putting in at Rush and taking out at Riley's Station is probably the shortest route. Time will always be somewhat dependent on the flow. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members MDnKS Posted January 14, 2012 Author Members Posted January 14, 2012 Thanks again for the information

Members MDnKS Posted January 16, 2012 Author Members Posted January 16, 2012 Is Rileys the take out upriver on the White. Did that the last time I was there, had to paddle hard but was not terrible.
gotmuddy Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 Riley's station is directly across from the mouth, on the other side of the island. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 You have to paddle upstream about 100yds to get an angle on the other side of the island. He charged us $60 to ride to Rush, leave the vehicle at the resort and take out 3-4 years ago, a bargain. He's also familiar with the Buffalo and a wealth of information. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
gotmuddy Posted January 16, 2012 Posted January 16, 2012 You have to paddle upstream about 100yds to get an angle on the other side of the island. If you start at the upstream side of the mouth and paddle hard directly across the river there is a chute you can take over. With very low water you may have to portage a bit. everything in this post is purely opinion and is said to annoy you.

It's not a do or die, you can always walk around the island if you're short. I felt good about the vehicle being on private for the period. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
