Geoff Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 Earlier in the week I decided to go to Blue Springs today ( Sunday ) then it got here and I was on the fence about it. Wasnt really prepared so I tied a couple flies and hit the road. I had a very pleasant day actually fishing the creek for the "first" time and actually trying to fish. i saw LOTS of trout, but man are they spooky down there. I am pleased to say that I was able to bring two in, so first wild trout I've caught in MO. First one was all of about 3", thought it was a minnow at first until I got it out of the water and say the par marks. Second fish was much better, about 6" long. It was a nice day to explore, I ran into another fly fisher and we talked for alittle while, he seemed to have better luck then I but such is life. I will have pictures up tomorrow, I went to test out my new waterproof camera and actually got to use it but I dont have an SD card reader at home. So yes, i finally did it, wild trout in MO. Cross it off the list, Mill Creek is next in March. "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."

It can be a very tough little creek to fish.

Hey Geoff, What section did you fish? Was the fisherman a Asian American guy with a sweet bamboo rod? He is a regular there, can lay down some line, and can catch some wilds. If yes, don't compare your days to his.
Geoff Posted January 23, 2012 Author Posted January 23, 2012 Mic, yes, yes it was the Asian American with TWO sweet bamboo rods. yeah he didnt mess around up there. Even after I had passed holes, he still had caught fish. I still had fun though. Definitly worth going back. He said thats really the only place he fishes now. he was very nice with letting me fish upstream of him and didnt mind at all. Super nice guy. I fished from the parking lot all the way up past ( whoops ) the public use area. I didnt notice the sign until I had turned back around. Anyway, here are my pictures. Caught my first one from in front of this log. First one, thought it was a minnow at first glance haha See the minnows?? they are everywhere Second fish "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
mic Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 That second fish is what I call the "Blue Springs Special". What great color on those fish. Anytime you want to meet up there let me know. I'll show you around and you can show me Crane (your neck of the woods right?).
Trout Commander Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Nice! I've been meaning to fish that stream for quite some time now but still haven't found time to make it out that way. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
