troutbum479 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Gurgler fly that I started tying last summer for the smallies and largemouths on Elk river. Hope you enjoy. arkmoflyfishing.blogspot.com http://okietroutbum.blogspot.com/
Arofishing Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Interesting. Is it very stable (does it stay upright) with all those feathers?
Flysmallie Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 The Gurgler is the best warm water fly ever. Nice job Troutbum. You spend way more time dressing them than I do, but it looks great. Aro - If I use hackle on mine I always cut the belly flat so it sits in the water the way it should. Nothing better than skating them across the end of a run and watching the water explode.
eric1978 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Awesome fly. AND I feel like dancing! Now where are my glow sticks?
troutbum479 Posted January 25, 2012 Author Posted January 25, 2012 Once the hackle soaks up some water it stays upright. I usually put a few drops of zap a gap at the front tie in point to keep the foam from twisting on the hook shank. I've used this fly for an entire day of fishing with repeated abuse and it held up very good. arkmoflyfishing.blogspot.com http://okietroutbum.blogspot.com/
BackCastingGolfer Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I've tied a ton of these recently. I tie them with different tails, some with marabou, some bucktail, and spread neck hackle (frog legs). I also have a tone of smaller ones, the bluegill love these suckers!
Jason R. Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 That was about 20 dollars worth of grizzly hackle. A hairdresser would be ticked if they saw that. I tie those things with a maribou tail, no hackle, and a few short rubber legs- they work pretty well but I bet anything gugglerish works like a charm. http://flyinthesouth.com/
