Feathers and Fins Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Ok so the day was to good to pass up and I had a little time to kill between jobs.. 3 trout in 1.5 hours in the back of PC.. And I saw at least another 10 making a run for the border when several big stripers came in. These were 40lbs class stripers if they were a ounce. A 4 weight fly rod is no match for them but I sure had fun on one for about 10 minutes till the 4pnd test leader went POP... Guess the walleye this weekend might have to wait for another week my bloods pumping still. Thats alot of trout for washing over the spillway unless someone is helping them out but the ones i caught had no sores on them so im just curious how they got there.. Oh and I put them back nice and safe. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
jeb Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Trout in Prarire Creek? Never heard of that before. Makes sense they'd have come from Lake Atalanta. Been a fair amount of traffic around PC the last few days. Seems to still be active fish in the area, judging from the number of boats. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
wc1063 Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Thanks for the report. It seems like those big stripers are out there to get a easy meal,

Members Bass Ivy Posted February 7, 2012 Members Posted February 7, 2012 It did come a pretty good rain the other night. I guess it could have got the water flowing over the spillway pretty good at Lake Atlanta and they went down the creek. Ill bet when they hit the lake and ran into them stripers Ill bet they were wishing they had stayed at home. LOL
Feathers and Fins Posted February 7, 2012 Author Posted February 7, 2012 lol...I grew up in SoCal and when they stocked trout every big bass and striper fisherman was there. The DFG were not the smartest they stocked every week at the same place and the big fish quickly keyed in on it and so did the fishermen. I wonder if the stripers in Beaver have learned to key in on PC after a big rain? And if so I just wonder how many trout might actually be swimming in Beaver and how big they are ? https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Members Bass Ivy Posted February 7, 2012 Members Posted February 7, 2012 I caught a trout on a jerk bait one time at Eagle Rock Bridge on Table Rock and I thought that was weird, but Trout in PC now that is weird, but Ill bet every time during winter and spring rains the trout wash out of Lake Atalanta and down into PC cove. And Ill bet there are some stripers in that have learned it for sure. I wish we could use trout for bait on Stripers. Stripers like them trout. Trout are like an ice cream sandwich to a striper.
1969Larson Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 I saw a stocking truck dumping at the ramp by the HWY 12 bridge recently. I assumed it was the fingerling blue catfish that they stock occasionally from the hatchery in Centerton. Could that have been trout accidentally? That or I'm sure it is no fun to drive that big tanker truck around the back side of Lake Atalanta where I've seen them dump trout before... just sayin'...it would be a lot easier to go to the ramp at HWY 12 if you were trying to get off of work early. - But that's a bit of a swim to the back of Prairie Creek - and a lot of stripers to swim by this time of year!
Stump bumper Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 It happened about 3 years ago they "accidentally" dumped a truck full of rainbows that was ment for Lake Atlanta but I think it is a member of Fish and Game that thinks like I do. Those are catchable size trout they put in lake Atlanta between 13-16 inches since they do not survive the summer they are stocked for easy table fair, but if they find deep water in Beaver they should live. They will also throw in some Breeders around 5-6 lbs sometimes. The F&G have a stocking table on the website with dates and sizes.

I wouldn't think the deep water would hold enough oxygen to keep trout over the summer.
