fishinwrench Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Oh man..... ya had me until you said "eztaz". That crap is a bite killer for me. I'd sub with some angel hair in a DL and fish it though
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Why did you abandon squirrel hair for the claws? I have an orange tail, but I have had it quite awhile and I don't know if they are still available. I like your Squirrel Tail flies, but do you always tie them on saltwater hooks? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
fishinwrench Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Why do you always tie them on saltwater hooks? With 15-20lb. Tippet....... He'd better! LOL
esox niger Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 Why did you abandon squirrel hair for the claws? I have an orange tail, but I have had it quite awhile and I don't know if they are still available. I like your Squirrel Tail flies, but do you always tie them on saltwater hooks? I haven't abandonded them at all...just got rollin an a slightly different wavelength. I always tie saltwater for my self but can provide them on freshwater hooks as well. 20lb tippet always, no break offs thats way, no stainless litter in fishes mouth or creekbeds, never have to wory about wet flies corroding and ruining other flies as my boxes often get wet and I'm not the type of guy to dry my boxes. in the Dia-riki 930's they will bend out of log before my perfection loop to fly does. Yes ...perfection loop to fly!!!! try it... Im on a tangent here but people who probably have their tippet attached with a perfection loop will use an improved mono loop knot and claim its a little stronger. well, if you have a perfection loop up top mine as well use one on your fly. (i'd love to hear feedback about that, if you ever try it) One of my claims to fame is that im the first person i've ever heard of doing this...yawn. Missouriflies.com Online Carp Fly Store
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I've used the perfection for loops for many years, but not for lures. I do use the Rapala loop, but I have no idea how they compare other than ease of tying. I find the Rapala easy to remember, even for me. I see your point on the saltwater hooks. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Trout Commander Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I used a perfection loop up until about a month ago for all of my streamer fishing. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 That is simpler then the way I was shown. Here's the Rapala loop. http://www.youtube.c...d&v=1bxvasCf8ak Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
