I might throw out a solution to the problem of rotting flesh from a snake or spider bite. A charcoal poultice placed on the bite and changed every few hours will draw the poison out without the rotting effect. My aunt got bit by a Brown Recluse a few years ago when one had crawled into a towel, she could fill the burning sensation beginning and seen the area beginning to turn red. all she did was start putting the charcoal poultice on it for about a week and all symptoms went away without a trace of a scare. I had a old women tell me see has been bit many times by a recluse but always put a slice of red potato on it with the same results. Don't know if I would try it when I know that the charcoal works though.
