BackCastingGolfer Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I am partial to my White River Ultralights from Bass Pro, I have a 4wt 5'8" and a 5wt 7' I use them both on small sreams.
Members P_L Posted February 13, 2012 Author Members Posted February 13, 2012 I was looking at the white river ultra lights, three forks, and tfo signature II series because they are all in my price range. Plus they all seem to be 3/4 wt 5-7'. Other than those i cant find much of a selection of small rods but im not in a big hurry. I hope i wont need waders, they don't make them to fit guys like me. I'm 5'6" size with a size 11 shoe, let me know if you see anyone come out with a leprechaun series wader haha “Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” -Warren Buffett
BackCastingGolfer Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 The WR Classics are great rods, I love my 4 wt, I was using my 5wt 7ft at roaring river and it snapped (BPS Replaced is with NO reciept), and switched to my little 4wt as my back up and landed a nive fat 10 lb girl, the rod handled the big fish splendedly!
Flyflinger Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I fish this creek regularly.....most important thing you can do is learn to walk like a ninja. These fish are as skittish as it comes and if you want to catch anything that is bigger than your finger you will have to be quiet and slow. Other than that they pretty much will bite just about anything you decide to float by them. There is no limit to what a man can do or how far he can go if he doesn't mind who gets the credit
Flyflinger Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Oh and a good pair of polarized glasses and ware drab colors...I ware camouflage...seems to help. After you fish the stream a couple of times you will figure out what places hold fish and what don't......some of my favorite holes are no deeper than knee deep. If you blow out a hole (spook the fish) just move on...they aren't going to bite.... Get some full size waders....most of the time the water is never that deep but there are a couple of holes where the best place to stand is gonna get to your waist.....besides that water is COLD in the fall. Members P_L Posted February 14, 2012 Author Members Posted February 14, 2012 very nice fish BCG Thanks for the advice flyflinger and in the right spots that creek is too cold to stand in in July haha. Hey, since your from Sullivan and an outdoorsman, when is the best time to spray for seed ticks? I'd like to get them before they hatch this year. Last year was terrible, I found 14 on me in just a couple hours. “Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” -Warren Buffett
Gavin Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Wear waders on those brush infested little creeks in the summertime...it really cuts down on the ticks, chiggers, & P.I...Stealth is key, and high water helps...good place to go if the Meramec is blown out.
