dtrs5kprs Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I've been using power pro for a lot of years. Moved back to Mo. 1 year ago previous to that spent last 10 years in panama city beach,fl. . Ran a boat offshore fishing for the past 5 years. Used braid quite a lot 10lb to 80 lb.. Couple of things you should do. Number 1 lighten your drag at least by 1/3 or more. number 2 the stuff you use to take curl out of mono works great on braid and will make it alot easier to throw. Number 3 you can,t beat a uni-knot on the braid. Having said all that have been catching a lot of good bass on the A-rig using 30 lb power pro moss green but i do prefer the hi-vis yellow. It doesn,t appear to bother the fish but I do tip my 10 lb with fluro. Threw one for about 15 minutes yesterday on 30# powerpro, doped with reel magic, and as you described everything ran fine. No snapped tips, no multi hook accidents, no snapping line. Seemed like plenty of line and rod for the job, but I am building my own and am not as worked up about leaving one in the lake ($2.50 vs. $15-$25).
abkeenan Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 I am not all that concerned with losing one as I kinda made my own just buying the unfinished ones from barlows tackle for a 10 pack cost me $40 then $5 for the duo lock snaps, $3 for the 3-D eyes, $6 or 7 for shipping and I already had paint. Took a little time and effort to bend the wires since the wire was pre-cut in the molded head which made it a little more difficult to get leverage for bending and wrapping the loop ends but worth saving around $100. So it cost me around $55 dollars to make 10 A-rigs so that works out to about 5.50-6 bucks a rig. But I still would rather not lose them on casts! Can't wait to get down there in the next month or so.
