Members tangled-again jim Posted February 21, 2012 Members Posted February 21, 2012 Ate the last of my trout for breakfist this morning so headed down to the dock to replenish my larder. Got there around 9am, a bit breezy but not to bad. Darryl, the maintenance guy at the resort, has built a windbreak so that if need to you can get out of the wind which was a good thing because around 1030 or so wind conditions became butal with whitecaps about a foot high.Needless to say I didn't see any boats on the lake today. I'm going to suggest to Darryl that a good idea for his next project would be to install a couple of heat lamps in his windbreak. 8>) The fishing started out pretty slow, but with the p/u of the wind, the fishing picked up too. Caught a 11 or so incher and then a 14" that put up quite a fight. After a bit I noticed that my line had come in quite a ways on one pole so I decided to reel in and recast. Found a 6"er on my hook. Cut the line and sent him back. A little while later caught another one about the same size. This one too was hooked pretty deep so cut line and sent him back. I sure hope the little guys make it. One thing for sure, if I would have put them on my stringer they wouldn't have had a snowballs chance in Hades of making it. Next I caught a 15.5 incher, quite the fighter he was. too. After I caught my 3rd trout I grabbed my baitcast rig and put a 3" slider on (white with a chartrouse tail) just in case O'l Grandad was lurking around out there. While retrieving I will cup my hand around the reel and stick my index finger under the line so I can feel the lure. On a couple of casts I could feel my lure bump something, figuring it was trash of some sort I didn't think much of it. Then after one cast that the bumping was more noticeable, I looked down at my lure and saw a trout about 10" following my bait. I guess what he was doing was biting the tail of my slider. I had a pretty big hook on the jighead so he probably couldn't get his mouth around it. I think maybe next time I will cut a couple of rings off the head and see if something like the 15.5 incher can get his mouth around the hook. I finsihed off with another 11"er. Caught all but the big one on marshmellow with an orange egg. The big one ate a white-yellow-green three egg combo. On the way home checked out Empire park. Four fishing off the dock and one gal sunbathing. Man, she must of needed a tan real bad. Probably got wind burn more than anything. I know I sure did. No trailers at the ramp and no one fishing the Tanycomo side of the dam. See Ya Jim
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Good times. Thanks for the report. I have never had luck fishing on a windy day. EVER. So needless to say I am jealous. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. (me) I am the master of my unspoken words, and the slave to those that should have remained unsaid. (unknown)
Members tangled-again jim Posted February 22, 2012 Author Members Posted February 22, 2012 Thanks Daryk. I stopped by the dock this AM for about an hour and watched Wayne catch his limit, all on orange eggs. So, for now at least, orange seems to be the ticket.
