stlfisher Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 My fiance and I are buidling a house out toward the Hillsoro area and will be moving the end of May. From looking at the map it looks the Big River and the Mineral Fork are pretty close. Are those two areas wadeable? Any other areas out that way? Not looking for anyone's secret spot, just general info on new places to wet a line. I C/R only. Also, any tips on the best way to get to Current from Hillsboro? A quick look and it looks like I might have to go up back toward 44 through St. Clair.
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted February 21, 2012 Posted February 21, 2012 Big river is wadable in some areas, some may be to deep. You also have access to Joachim Creek which is wadeable in some areas. I know there is a faster time to Dent Co. by taking Hwy 21south to Hwy 8west to Hwy 19south. Or you can go Hwy 21south to Hwy 32west to Hwy 19south. Kinda depends on where you want to end up. If you get car sick, then take 44, otherwise it is a nice ride down some nice secondary highways. I have not been to the Mineral Fork. I live in Festus and drive around the Hillsboro area often. There are a few nice access points to the Big River from Hwy 21. One is in Washington State park, they also have a boat launch (free). Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. Members Dirtworm Posted February 22, 2012 Members Posted February 22, 2012 there are several nice wadeable creeks intersecting I 55 starting at imperial all the way down to Cape Girardeau. I would say all of them are wad able and should be close enough to hillsboro. "Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing." John 21:3 KJV If you don't catch 'em at night, try again in the morning.
stlfisher Posted February 22, 2012 Author Posted February 22, 2012 Thanks a bunch for the great info. I have fished some of the streams on 55 this last summer as well as Joachim creek a bit. Looks l may need to get a canoe for the Big River. Thanks again.
timinmo Posted February 23, 2012 Posted February 23, 2012 Stl you can access the Mineral Fork from the Hwy 47 bridge west of Hwy 21 down a steep hill. Kingston access is a little ways downstream and is accessed from Kingston Road also on the west side of Hwy 21 just north of the Hwy 21/47 junction. The Mineral Fork is pretty much all wadeable. The upper reaches of the Big River are good to wade, check out Bootleg Access just off 21 south of Potosi. Hope you find some good spots. Tim
