Troutnut69 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I'll be down at Bennett for the circus next week , spending some time with family and friends just like every other opening weekend. I'm taking my pontoon along to float the river since I just don't get into fishing the park much anymore. I've always floated from the Bennett access to NRO or on down to Barclay but would like to see some different water this time. Looking for any suggestions on what section of river you would float this time of year , above the spring? Is there even any way to float down below Barclay? Trout , smallies I really don't care much about what type of fish (or how many) just looking to get on the river and enjoy a day of fishing like always. If anyone else is gonna be down for the festivities and is interested in getting away and floating with me ,I'd be game. Thanks......Jeff http://highplainsflyfisher.blogspot.com/
FishinCricket Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 The fish are much more concentrated in the spring water, which is the first few miles below the Bennett public access and the first mile or so below Barclay Public access.. From Bennett to Barclay is 5.5 miles or so, from Barclay to the next access (Prosperine) is another 5 or so if I remember correctly.. There are various outfitters in between, but they each have their own float put ins and take outs based upon which side of the river they are on, and if your shuttling yourself it's easy to see why.. (Bennett to Barclay is a 30 minute shuttle but Barclay to Prosperine is a 2 hour shuttle!) I'd suggest you have Redbeards shuttle you and do one of their two floats.. (float 2 would be all new water to you) Options: http://www.redbeardsranch.com/canoeing.htm http://www.nrocanoe.com/float.html Or (plug for OneShots family): http://www.mo-adventures.org/rates.htm cricket.c21.com
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 The problem with Prosperine is the shuttle, it's l-o-n-g. You could do Moon Valley to 64. There will still be some smallies up there and a few trout. Have your family drop you off at MV and call them when you get to the 64 access. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Lots of slower water and, what, 7-8 miles? cricket.c21.com
fishinwrench Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Redbeard to Ho Humm would be a short float but it's excellent water and the shuttle is a breeze.

Troutnut69 Posted February 26, 2012 Author Posted February 26, 2012 Thanks for all the great info guys. The float from redbeards to Ho-Humm...not familiar with those outfitters , are both of them above Barclay or below? I'd really like to float some water below Barclay but it sounds like the Prosperine shuttle might be a little much to be worthwhile. And what about the NRO to Rendezvous Point float...whereabouts on the river is rendezvous point located , below barclay I would assume? Thanks again , always nice to talk to folks who know the area better than you do when making decisions.
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 26, 2012 Posted February 26, 2012 Red Beard is on the east side above Barclay and Ho Humm is downriver (north). Rendezvous is also down river from Barclay. All are private take outs. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
