TroutFearMe Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Ok guys I just had my wading boots resoled and from what I hear they can get very slick, my question is do I spend the $30 for the name brand studs or would sheet metal screws works the same.
Ham Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Sheet metal screws. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Brian Wise Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 Sheet metal screws are a lot better than the super hard anodized cleats that are $40. There is something about a super, super hard metal on slick limestone that just doesn't make sense to me. BUT, the new Aluminum cleats are solid....if you have ever floated in an old aluminum canoe on low water you will know exactly what I am talking about. I have to question the durability of the aluminum studs but there is no doubt they are probably the best studs out there. My Youtube Channel
flyfishmaster Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 TFM, You indicate you got your boots re-soled? did you have felt and replaced them with rubber? Where did you get this done? Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
TroutFearMe Posted February 28, 2012 Author Posted February 28, 2012 FFM I did have felt on my wading boots and had them resoled by Craftwell & Dunnright in Farmington, cost $15 to ship by USPS and $70 for the the new soles
drew03cmc Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 For another $40, you could have bought Korkers that come with studded rubber and rubber soles. I don't understand paying the price of new boots to get them resoled. For $45 more, you could have bought Simms Freestones with the rubber soles. For about twice that, you could have gotten top end boots from Cabela's, which have gotten rave reviews. Andy
TroutFearMe Posted February 29, 2012 Author Posted February 29, 2012 True drew but I already own a pair of Simms boots that are already broken in, had a chance to get the new Simms with the BOA system but I like the ones I have.
