Members skeeterfisher Posted February 29, 2012 Members Posted February 29, 2012 First winter with Bass boat/outboard. Water pressure guage worked last fall, now it doesnt. Did it freeze and bust? Advice please.
fishinwrench Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 If it is hard line with a compression coupler on the engine side then I doubt that the line froze and burst. Probably a leaking coupler, bad guage, or the line is clogged with scale. (Mentioned in order of the most likely). Assuming of course that the water pump is ok.
Members skeeterfisher Posted February 29, 2012 Author Members Posted February 29, 2012 Tks for input, fishinwrench. Should have mentioned that motor is not even a year old, however, boat although not used when i purchased was an 08, sitting on a lot for 3 years...who knows. Motor is circulating water so pump probly ok..Tks for any additional input.
dave potts Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 Might also check to see if it is still coupled onto the guage itself. Mine use to slip off over the winter for some reason and I would have to crawl under the dash with a flashlight and stick the tube back onto the back of the guage. Dave
Members gdh Posted February 29, 2012 Members Posted February 29, 2012 i have a ranger and if you do use it in the winter which i do it will freeze and break the gauge. yep it happen to me i learned the hard way.
Members skeeterfisher Posted March 1, 2012 Author Members Posted March 1, 2012 Thanks Dave, will check out. Ranger owner....what do you do to prevent?
fishinwrench Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 Separate the coupler and using a syringe fill the line from the engine coupler to the guage with RV anti-freeze. It won't get sucked out and will prevent freezing all Winter while still allowing the guage to work in cold weather.
Members gdh Posted March 1, 2012 Members Posted March 1, 2012 i have a simple solution that works great thanks to fred over at ulrich .i have a inline coupling under the dash in the winter just pull the line off and plug the line. yes the gauge does not work in the winter. or i can use it and just pull the line apart at the end of the day to drain the line. hope that helps.
