Quillback Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Watching the weather report this AM, they are now predicting 5-10" locally the next couple of days. A couple of days ago the corps said they weren't going to release any water ahead of the storm as they thought it would not rain enough to flood the lake. Seems we've seen this scenario before and saw the outcome. Of course the forecast could be wrong, let's hope so.
Stump bumper Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I have always noticed that the lake will rise 1ft for every 1in of rain as long as that 1in is over the entire area, so if it does get up to the 10in mark we will be at the top of the flood pool again. They used to pull down to at least 1115ft every winter just to make room for Spring rains then we had one dry year and have had to flood the area every year since. By the time they pull all their data after the fact then guess what, there will be no where to put the water,SURPRISE, it rains down stream too. I don't think this week will go over the dam but last time I checked it is not even Spring yet and I will bet the corps will let the water set at 1129ft right up to the real Spring rains.
wc1063 Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 If we do get that much rain, is it good or bad for fishing on the main lake?
Feathers and Fins Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 Stump I was doing some calculations this morning when they beafed up the forecast. Beaver is 1120.39, 1 inch of rain over 1 acre = 27,154 gallons and 17.38 million gallons per square mile. Beaver has 31,700 surface acres. Basically Beaver will raise 1.16 feet per inch of rain. Unfortunately this is suppose to be a major storm with large volumes of water at one time not allowing for the land to absorbe it and with locally as high as 15 inches possible Im going to go way out here for fun only. Lets say we get 8 inches thats 9.33 feet. Add in run off and im betting we see the gates open no later than Thursday pm. Unfortunately Tablerock will be getting rain as welll and with both being at Pool I would bet TR opens her gates next week... Guess we will find out what happens to those new rocks on upper taney. Disclaimer dont ask me to explain the math it would drive me crazy and its not 100% as a lakes topography can change it but it can be found on USGS website. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

Its underway, here in western washington county. lightning flashn, heavy rain, little sprinkle of hail mixed in the winds, got my safe room ready in case of tornado, might be wearing my life jacket to bed by tomorrow night if it keeps on raining I'm guessing the gates will be open this week for sure,
jeb Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 If we do get that much rain, is it good or bad for fishing on the main lake? It's a bad thing, at least if it's at all like last year. It muddies up the water and makes fishing much harder. We have 2.75 inches in the rain gauge so far from the last two days in the PC area. And they're saying the worst is going to be today. Sure looks like the Corp is on the wrong end of it with the lake levels this year. Time will tell. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Feathers and Fins Posted March 20, 2012 Posted March 20, 2012 Latest reading shows beaver still at 20. not sure how thats possible as most the area has recieved 1 to 3 inches overnight from news reports and no generation showing. http://www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil/WCDS/Reports/Data/Beaver.htm https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Quillback Posted March 20, 2012 Author Posted March 20, 2012 Maybe it takes a bit before the rise appears on that gauge. White river and War Eagle are definitely rising with increased flow. http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ar/nwis/uv/?site_no=07048600&PARAmeter_cd=00065,00060
