Members rabbithunter Posted April 22, 2012 Members Posted April 22, 2012 DaddyO and Nick, I've fly fished Collinsville city lake for 10 years, it's as moody as my....um, its moody. Last week, I took my son and caught nothing, but the next evening I caught 50 or more nice hand size bluegills in 1-1/2 hr on a yellow #6 BoogleBug with a bully bluegill spider hanging 10" below it... I catch a lot of doubles with this rig. No bass that night, but I usually catch a couple in the 1-2lb range. The lake is funny, and i can tell in 2 casts whether to stay or go back home... It's either awesome or terrible, very bar pressure sensitive is what I think. DaddyO.. I have followed this forum, and your LIR reports for years. I feel bad that this is my first post, I guess I'm a lurker. I figure you learn more by listening, and this forum has been a great resource for me. I plan to hit the LIR the very first Saturday the water is decent for wading. It would be great to meet up with you either @ the LIR, or one evening I'll take you (Nick too) to the city lake. I've never had much luck w/ trout on a fly, and need some help, even though I've flyfished all my life for bass and gills. I live in Collinsville, 3 blocks west of your church.... I grew up in the Church of Christ, in Tecumseh, where my folks are sitting right now, and I should be. I'm busy coaching 6&under baseball for the next couple months, but i'll always make time to go cast a fly. Let me know, Scott.
Nick Williams Posted April 23, 2012 Author Posted April 23, 2012 Nice. Yeah, sometimes it can just flip off. I think a large part has to do with the water coming in from Oolagah lake. I finally found where it comes in at as well, but they fish coming in have a drastic change in currents, temperatures, clarity, ect., so im still try to figure the whole body of water out. I haven't caught any bass larger than two pounds at the most but they're are a ton of panfish and I finally caught a White bass out of there as well. - Nick
DaddyO Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 RabbitHunter, Welcome to the forum as an active poster. I would, definitely like to hook up with you and Nick sometime. I'll be finished with volleyball after next weekend and will have more time to get out and fish. I had never heard of a BoogleBug until you mentioned it. I Googled it just now to see what it was. The popper looks just like the FlipFlop popper that I tie except I don't put eyes on mine. DaddyO We all make decisions; but, in the end, our decisions make us.
Members rabbithunter Posted April 25, 2012 Members Posted April 25, 2012 Boogle Bugs are really tough, and really expensive. I've spent a lot of prime evening fishing time trying to snag one danngling from a tree limb. I've not tied my own poppers in a couple of years, just never seemed to have (or make) the time i needed to get really good at it. I'm meeting up w/ my Dad at his place on Eufaula this weekend, where we're gonna throw some popping bugs in the shallow water up in Brooken cove. We were running beagles there back in December when the lake was low, and stumbled on a big sand flat that should be a great spawning bed. Maybe a little early for bedding, so I'll make sure he buys plenty of boat gas and food in case we need to hit different parts of the lake. I love it watching my old man spend money. My mom and I tell him it's like watching a kid fall on the floor and throw a temper tantrum... Kinda disturbing and hilarious at the same time. It's all in good fun. I'm bringing all our tying containers home with me. I'll go through it and order what I need to replace and fill in to get going again. It will be a fun weekend...... If I could only get my dad to give up his glass flagpole and automatic flyreel that tips the scale at just under 47lbs... EACH!! Shoot me an email when you get ready to try C'ville lake. I go 2 or 3 evenings a week.
