Crappie5 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 Are the crappie not on the banks yet? With water temps ive been hearing, i figured the crappie would be already on the banks.
Skeeter ZX190 Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 I fished Wednesday afternoon around the Long Shoals area. We found some in the flooded buckbrush. Some bushes held fish, most didn't. You just had to keep moving. Mostly black males. Others we caught a little off the bank in 5 to 7 foot. We saw 67 to 70 degree water.
rumrunner Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 they move shallow to feed especially at dark but i haven't heard of any spawners yet.could be any time but it's been more consistent out a little bit to the channels.just what i hear.....
Skeeter ZX190 Posted March 31, 2012 Posted March 31, 2012 Went out Friday afternoon in the Long Shoal area. Caught my limit in about 3 hours. Caught them all on a 1/16 oz. white grub. They were all pretty shallow. Hit one spot that produced a lot of fish right off of a beaver home. Half of the crappie were females and the eggs were still pretty firm. Caught a bunch of 12 to 14 1/2 inch bass on my crappie jig. Caught maybe 10 to 15 that would all go between 5 and 6. Inches that is! Saw at least one bass on a bed.
Members rntmvp6 Posted April 1, 2012 Members Posted April 1, 2012 I was out on Thursday and found my limit sitting in about 10 inches to 2 foot of water close to the bank. Was using a red/chart jig. Water temps ranged between 65-67 degrees. Took about 3 hours to catch a limit. Out of the 15 (2 were females with eggs ready and were oozing out of their bellies and the rest were males). I have been catching them this way for the last 2 weeks, well just prior to the big rain that put the lake on the rise.
rumrunner Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 caught all mine in the middle of the creek again.most were big females with eggs.most everyone else was fishing shallower but again they said the bite was better early and late.just goes to show ya more than one way.....this was near bucksaw.
