I am 13 miles on the big niangua and will be down for easter with my father in law. I only bass fish, but he is a crappie fisherman. I would like to crappie fish with him but do not know where, how deep, or with what?

Thanks,

David

The lake has come up about 3 feet with the past rain event. You at least have some water up in your area. As of this week the male crappie are staging on the big niangua. With water color stained, I am catching the males in 2 to 5 feet of water, no females as of yet on yesterday. The water will be clearing this week, so expect to find the crappie that are just moving in to be deeper with the clearer water.

Update on crappie. This morning I caught some females that I know just moved in overnight. I fished the same area last night around 5:30 and only caught males. They are still in that 2 to 5 foot range and close to any brush or sticks on the bottom. Also caught a nice channel cat on the long rod, about 3 pounds. The channel looked to be a male and probably staging as well. I am catching these fish at the 5mm on the big niangua.

My buddies fished the Niangua arm yesterday and tore the crappie up. Not sure if they were mostly males or females but I did notice a few egg sacks in the gut bucket after he had cleaned them.

My favorite colors are white/chart, orange/chart, and black/chart slab busters. Its rare one of those dont work well for me.
