Feathers and Fins Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 I went out with one mission today, catch as many fish and species as possible on some flies that Duane had gave me the other day when we met at Taneycomo. Arriving at the lake at 11:00 am, I ran into the back of Coose first as yesterday evening Myself and a friend had spotted some Blue Wing teal and I wanted some pictures of them in full color. I was not disappointed they were still there and allowed me to get close enough to get a bunch of fine shots. Here is one of a number of good pictures. Proceeding back to one of the coves, Where we had spotted some carp was not a disapointment 3 carp on the DuckyDevestater for 15 to 20 pnds. While messing with the carp a Nice 10pnd gar decided to show himself and I had to try it, Those hooks are sharp as anyone who has ever tried to hit a Gar knows their mouths are like concrete. Five minutes later the Gars was in. Then onto the mission at hand. Hello Mr Whitey Or should I say the first of 32 white, 3 stripers and 3 hybrids. Sorry Duane i was to busy laughing an catching one after another to keep taking pictures. But then something completely unexpected happened. These flies apparently are on the dinner menu for this fish? Not just one Walleye but Two walleye ate it. I felt I had proven out the fly well enough to pick up my other favorite type of fishing lure a Pop R, and continued catching whites and hybrids. A word of caution there is a lot of floating debris in the water be very careful on the water. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856

wc1063 Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 Met up with F & F around 4:30, didn't catch anything til 30 minutes before sunset and suddenly white bass action everywhere, caught about 15 in 45 minutes or so, and as soon as it got dark, nothing. I thought the white bass is running now, but apparently some decided to stay around the main lake. It was a great time, too bad it had to end so soon!!
Feathers and Fins Posted April 1, 2012 Author Posted April 1, 2012 Duane.. stop fishing... tie more... I NEED THEM... Dang things just flat out catch fish. The walleye tore them up, Throw it out 3 twitches and hook up. I almost forgot why i was out there today and switched over to target them specifically. But I told you I would see how it works... It works great is the answer. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
Fishin Hodge Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Do you make any of those with enough weight to throw them on spinning tackle or is that what you are using Fins? They are sweet looking. Like that purple/red tone.
Feathers and Fins Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 Hodge they are heavy enough to throw them on a spinner with light line im sure, I had no problem firing them out on my fly rod. I dont Make them" but im begging Ducky to tie a bunch more" Im betting 2 and 4lb test line would work. For me I will stick to throwing them on the fly-rod, I was using my 7wt rod with 12lb Floro and a sinking tip. I told Ducky that i thought it was one of the bestfly patterns I have ever used, it a multy species killer and it is versatile enough to use as a streamer, crawler or a popping jig. The walleye are stacked up so if you find one there will likely be others with it. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
duckydoty Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I've been trying to get some tied up. Problem is, I need about 24 to 30 dozen of them for Alaska this year. I've got about a dozen extra of the purple and greys so far. Gonna work on the olive and cream next, but looks like I wont get any tying in till Saturday. Brother Dave is coming in tonight and we will be running 24/7 till Friday chasing anything that swims. A Little Rain Won't Hurt Them Fish.....They're Already Wet!! Visit my website at..
