not to hijack the topic but how do you typically catch catfish on a flyrod?

Not to hijack either, but fisnwrench gets them pretty regularly, and on clouser's mostly, I think.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Addicted to creeks,

They have been hitting mostly while chasing crappie with the fly rod. They hide in logs and brush and ambush anything that goes by. Wooly buggers, epoxy minnows, damselfly nymphs, zonkers and on a pond the other day had one hit a popper. If I was just to just go out for them float the river and target logs and brush, throw about three times at a place and move on. If there is one there it will be the first thing to hit. Clear water is your friend when fishing with the fly rod. Here are some from this year so far.

awesome....im assuming fished slow and deep? im trying to be crazy guy fly fishing where no one else does (i havent seen a lot of fly fishing up here in northern mo ((last hijacked post promise)) also is a 5wt got enough back bone to handle one?

Fish always lose by being "got in and dressed." It is best to weigh them while they are in the water. The only really large one I ever caught got away with my leader when I first struck him. He weighed ten pounds.

5wt will work, I have been using a 6wt with 8lb tippet. Wishing sometimes I had 10 lb tippet. You will find they want to run right back to the tangles and wrap you up. I have lost them many times because of brush from not being able to turn them. I vary my retrive and they will hit it stripped fast to just a slow sink/drift. These fish were shallow 2 to 4 feet deep in the middle of the day.
