Members T Hood Posted April 9, 2012 Members Posted April 9, 2012 I caught these two on topwater (skitter pop) this evening. The female has quite a belly on her. Both of them were in less than 4' of water. I'm hoping this trend continues. It's always fun to get hits on topwater baits. Has anyone else had similar luck around the Meramec?
Bill Jr. Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 What a beautiful evening and topwater! Doesn't get any better. Did you catch these in the river or just in the area? I was out a couple evenings this past week and caught a couple fat females but i haven't tried topwater yet. Were these your first 2 topwater fish of the year? I'm going to Bull Shoals later this week but may have to try on top one evening before I go. Thanks for the report!
Haris122 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I believe I caught a young Smallmouth last summer on the Meramec near Unger Park. Actually happened to be my first fish I ever caught, but lately I've been trying too hard to catch things at Unger Lake, so i haven't messed around on the Meramec as much. Where was this at? Looks a bit like it could be at Lower Meramec Park.
mic Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I couldn't get topwater to work in IL on Saturday. Only slow moving worms were working.
