Jason R. Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 I noticed a bunch of dead suckers in the White river in Goshen, AR the other day- i bet i saw 25 or so scattered around the river- no gig marks. http://flyinthesouth.com/
Stoneroller Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 make sure you guys report these sightings to your local DNR or Dept. of Consv. They keep track of fish kills and they will want first hand observations so please call. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Justin Spencer Posted April 11, 2012 Posted April 11, 2012 This wasn't a fish kill, just a few sick fish, might have been beat up from the flood and got an infection or something else. Just a part of nature, not worthy of a call. Seth Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 This wasn't a fish kill, just a few sick fish, might have been beat up from the flood and got an infection or something else. Just a part of nature, not worthy of a call. I would still call. The underlying cause of them dying might be bigger than you would expect. Hopefully it's nothing major though.
smallmouthjoe Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Did anyone notice any hemorrhaging of the shin or bulging eyes when they saw these fish?
Justin Spencer Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Did anyone notice any hemorrhaging of the shin or bulging eyes when they saw these fish? Not sure where a fish's shin is located but didn't notice a hemorage (although I hurt mine yesterday). I would still call. The underlying cause of them dying might be bigger than you would expect. Hopefully it's nothing major though. It would be a waste of my time and theirs to worry about a couple sick suckers, speaking from experience there is nothing to be done in this instance, if it were a bunch of fish as others have seen it might be worth a call if someone is worried about a point source pollutant. Jack Jones Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 Not to jack the thread to much, but I wonder if this has any relevance to what you saw: http://www.ky3.com/news/ky3-14000-fish-killed-in-midmissouri-creek-20120411,0,1501603.story "Thanks to Mother Mercy, Thanks to Brother Wine, Another night is over and we're walking down the line" - David Mallett
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 and noticed loads of dead fish. They were floating in slow pools, near brush piles, and on the edge of the bank. AJBrowns post is disturbing and certainly nothing to sneeze at. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
RSBreth Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I haven't seen any of this further upstream near me on either the James Or Finley. Curious.
smallmouthjoe Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 I would report it if I had any concerns. Wasting a biologists time is a small cost, diease out break and chemical dumping have the potential to do real harm to our resources. It won't do any harm to report what you saw.
