Stoneroller Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 My crankbaits and jerkbaits are all kept in plano 4700 boxes. I have recently purchased one of their terminal tackle boxes for my hooks, weights, spring keepers, etc etc and I love it. I keep those in a softsided tote along with a fishing barometer, extra line and misc stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else. Safety pin style spinnerbaits I keep in a binder, that I think was made for grubs or 4 inch worms, but it works great for spnnerbaits. I can store 20 in the space of a couple of packages of soft plastics. Those big spinnerbait boxes don't work well on a kayak/canoe where space is a premium, at least not for me. I keep my soft plastics either in a finesse worm binder or in their original packages inside a small soft sided tote that also houses my spilt ring pliers, wire cutters, and scale w/float. The tote has mostly river stuff, beavers/flukes/grubs. I have two small plano stowaway boxes that I have my jig heads in. I can toss those in the tote and be ready for smallmouth in flash. Everything is sorted out too. I have basically two sets of tackle. One for lakes, the other specific to ozark rivers. (when I say 'river' that's what I mean, not missouri/mississippi) That way I can take just the few things that have the gear I need on the river, but have a choice on the lakes with whatever I want to take. Deep diving stuff in one box, shallow/top water in another, worms in a 3rd, craws/trailers in a 4th, etc etc. I also have a catch-all box that has a mix of plastics which is usually what goes with me while the bulk are stored in their own boxes. I carry a lot of stuff and it's much easier to find when you keep it organized and in associated boxes/wallets/bags. I'm not a big fan of hard sided tackleboxes like I used to have when I was a kid because they really lack versatility and don't fit anywhere well. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. timinmo Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Roller I am much like you and have went to mainly soft sided with plano boxes inside. The only real difference is that my soft plastics are stuffed into the outside pockets on my soft sided bag. I really liked the falcon boxes for crankbaits, jerkbaits and hooks and weights but they seem to have disappeared, maybe I haven't looked hard enough. The other change I have is a dedicated wading bag. It is really just a soft sided should bag that will hold three of the smaller plano boxes and some soft plastics. It is also set up to carry an extra rod, knife, pliers and cutters. Tim
Stoneroller Posted May 3, 2012 Author Posted May 3, 2012 basspro had the falcon boxes on sale last month. I'm not sure if they still are. Fish On Kayak Adventures, LLC. Supreme Commander 'The Dude' of Kayak fishing www.fishonkayakadventures.com fishonkayakadventures@yahoo.com
Members bsteele02 Posted May 3, 2012 Members Posted May 3, 2012 I have two tackle boxes. One giant one that I keep all my backups in or different colors for swapping depending on the conditions etc. I bank fish so I keep the big one in my trunk. I have a small lightweight one I carry around with my essientials.
ness Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 I don't know the Falcon boxes -- may have to give them a look. Plano doesn't seem to be able to make a box with a good, durable latch that stays shut if you bump it around. Also, the boxes with moveable inserts aren't very well made. Dividers slip out of their slots and sometimes need trimming to make them fit. The lid doesn't fit snug down on top of the dividers, so loose hooks will slide over the top, stuff gets snagged, etc. John
Stoneroller Posted May 3, 2012 Author Posted May 3, 2012 drop a plano box on a hard surface sometime. they tend to shatter. but as cheap as they tend to be, its something I can deal with. The pro latch system is the way to go if you are looking at the boxes. The ones with the latches that are the same material as the box tend to not stay closed, especially once they warp a bit. Feathers and Fins Posted May 3, 2012 Posted May 3, 2012 Plastics in one box, Terminal in another, hard baits in another. I am a neat freak I like to know where everything is and can get at it fast. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Beaver-Lake-Arkansas-Fishing-Report/745541178798856
