I like a gap that is at least twice the diameter of the worm I'm using so that I can go through it even when it is doubled. If you buy hooks from a display look at the gap and the wire diameter and pick the appropiate size. Brands vary enough that the size is not always that useful. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
