brian prewitt75 Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 Be heading down and staying a week in mid june for vacation. Just wondering where to start and what to use. Mainly be targeting smallies, crappie, and walleye. Would nights be best for eyes? Staying a couple miles from dam. Any advice would be appreciated. Spoony Slayr
Ham Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 NIghttime seems to be a little more of a reliable bite for walleye, and you're likely to pick up a few smallies as well. Brushpiles and docks = crappie. Soft plastics on 1/32 oz jigheads. I would throw topwater early and late for smallies and grubs or tubes during the day. Good Luck BUT return ALL the smallies to the water immediately. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
brian prewitt75 Posted May 1, 2012 Author Posted May 1, 2012 Thanks. Do poppers or prop baits seem best? Spoony Slayr
Fishin Hodge Posted May 1, 2012 Posted May 1, 2012 I am more of a popper fan than a prop bait guy, but wake baits like a redfin, and walking baits like a Super Spook Jr. are my favorites on Bull.
Bill Jr. Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 I agree with Hodge on this. I really like to fish a Super Spook Jr. on top in the summer. You can throw it a mile if you need to get to a surfacing school on a main lake bluff end. If you are not comfortable with a walking bait i like poppers over props but just my taste. For poppers i usually use a Heddon Pop N Image in threafin shad. If you are fishing shoreline don't need to work it fast at all. May get a hodpodge of bass on top in the morning and not just smallies but I love the topwater bite. Have fun and Good luck.
Bill Jr. Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Brian, I also get a lot of smallies on a 1/2 oz. PB&J FB jig with a green pumpkin or cinnamon purple craw trailer on main lake points or swing banks. Don't fish much for crappie but i think I'll give it a try after some success this spring. I'm going down for Memorial Day weekend at the end of May so I'll give a report when i get back.
