9LB Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Ok maybe not. Had another awesome walleye fish. I am pretty sure I have just about limited out every time I have gone fishing them. I have caught walleyes in many different locations then I have fished in the past few years which makes me think they are everywhere. Time for Stockton to raise the Min length or move to a slot length. 18" should be the min on a Walleye. I remember up north throwing everything back under 20" and of course we had a walleye season so you could not hammer them all year long. I do not have any new tips that I have not shared before so good luck and everyone keep fishing the Crappies, cats and Bass. It should be a great weekend. Big fish was 21 inches and only 1 fish under 15.
frying eyes Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Way to go! I'm for the slot limit or raise min length. This year has been great for me to, I'd like to keep it that way!
powerdive Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Easy limits for all this spring. Enjoy it while it lasts! Being from up north, I actually like the 15" limit--those 15-17 inchers yield perfect fillets. It's what the MDC's put-n-take approach is all about. But I do wish they'd close the season during prespawn and spawn--say, mid-February thru mid-April. There's a lot of carnage then, often to excess, by people who otherwise wouldn't know a walleye from a bicycle.
Members fishinitup Posted May 11, 2012 Members Posted May 11, 2012 I'm undecided about the size limit or slot. There is one school of thought that says dropping the size limit has actually helped the fewer fish get bigger. Less competition so more growth. I have actually cought bigger fish since they dropped the length to 15. Sounds like judjing from your luck this year, you're seeing similar results. I haven't had the chance yet this year to do any eye fishing vut I've sure cought some nice ones fishing crappie though.
frying eyes Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I'm afraid some day they will stop stocking. I'm ok with the closed season during spawn. Slot would be my first choice 17-24 let them go. 15ers taste the best! I'll be on water this evening looking for a limit. Good luck all!
9LB Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 I think I am probably ok with the size limit because most guys can not catch any walleyes anyways. I do love the idea of setting the size limits at the perfect fillet size for all species. I am just very shocked no season. I remember May 15th being as big up north as Nov 15th (opening day of deer season). It was a huge deal and the fish had time to do their thing.
Nwtf gobbler Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I am definitely one of the "most guys" that can't catch a walleye. I've only caught 2, one while bass fishing and one while crappie fishing. Maybe it's time to follow you guys around on the lake and see how to do it.
watermen Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 oh man why would you want to go and make a mess of the walleye fishing like MN, WI, and MI. For now there's fewer picky fisherman and better fishing here than most places other than the dakotas (no Season) Next you'll want to invite the netters and spearers down to thin them out. On the Menominee now you can catch one on the WI side and 6 on the michigan side and the fox is one trophy fish only when they can't even repeoduce.
wtr dogs Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Please Leave everything ALONE!!!!!!!! The greatest thing about Stockton is whether draggin a minnow or worm or trolling you never know what you might catch. LM Bass, SM Bass, Crappie. Walleye,Chanel cat. White bass, Kentucky bass,Drumm or Flathead...!ETC! It is great the way it is!!!! My buddy spent a whole week on the Rock and they only had one fish to fry. The time we spent over the last 2 days we filled a GALLON Ziplock with fillets I also bass fish and that is way above the Rock!!! :have-a-nice-day: Home of the the dam of 2009 AKC National Debry Champion.--AMMOAMMO
