Gavin Posted May 21, 2012 Posted May 21, 2012 I'm sure it was them....We floated from East Gate (Were those ingrate heads were) down to FS road 1730 at Booker Bend. The company & the bluff views were great, but habitat was poor...Lots of long stretches of flat featureless limestone bottom and not alot of good looking habitat in between. Plus what looked good...didnt fish well. Most of our fish came from the off bank, or spots were no wader could get a cast too if near a road. Not many fish at all IMO.
LarrySTL Posted May 22, 2012 Author Posted May 22, 2012 I dont know if it was the same ones or not, but yes we did jump their car for them in the morning, and somebody siphoned my gas tank after we started floating. By good luck, I made it to a gas station, but the low gas light was on for more miles than I want to think about. I do like the story about Smalliebigs uncle. I think I may have to adopt an uncle too ! http://intervenehere.com
Members Nightbrew Posted May 31, 2012 Members Posted May 31, 2012 Can you be more specific on this location? Looking at the missouri canoe .org website I'm not able to see the places mentioned above in the description. Can you give some mile marker #s. Some friends and I are planning on floating the Big Piney soon and I would like to avoid this stretch. Thanks
Gavin Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 If your looking at this map..we put in at 66.8 and took out around mile 78. Good luck. http://www.missouricanoe.org/river-maps/piney.html
Members Nightbrew Posted May 31, 2012 Members Posted May 31, 2012 Thanks Gavin, are there other sections of the river that are similar to that, or is it mostly better. I have fished from the headwaters and enjoyed it, but never that far downstream.
Gavin Posted June 1, 2012 Posted June 1, 2012 The Big Piney is a great river and the float we did had some awesome scenery. Unfortunately the fishing wasnt up to par when compared with every other stretch that I've fished on that river. If your thinking lower...I'd float from were we took out down to the Gasconade during the week..Its semi urban fishing, houses, 1 rail bridge, and 3 highway bridges, but there is some pretty cool scenery on that float. . Good luck.
